In Hong Kong

IFC2 now dominates Hong Kong’s skyline. It stands at the western edge of the harbor. It is an awesome, towering presence, and at the top, it pierces the sky with claw-like structures. Its smaller partner building, IFC1, also sports talons. Together they glow at night like a pair of alien craft landed for an unclear purpose. As mist and light mingle among the talons of the larger tower, it seems that some kind of communication or interaction is taking place with the heavens. The lines, windows and details of both are so subtle, perfectly proportioned and resonant with each other that they stand apart from the rest of the skyline, making their neighbors look blocky and primitive by comparison. They cast off a beautiful but vaguely threatening aura. They are the future of Hong Kong, looking north, beautiful but in a state of readiness, with claws.

At Last...

The blossoms finally begin to appear, three weeks later than last year. A long, cold winter followed by a relentlessly soggy, cold "spring."

Istanbul, Turkey

Galata Tower in Istanbul, Turkey. I spent a fun two days in that city with the PIR (.org) Advisory Committee. I was surprised to learn that with a population of 16 million, Istanbul is one of the largest cities in the world. Wikipedia ranks it 4th.
